Pacific Northwest College of Art
Oil Painting Fundamentals
This skill-building, oil painting class is designed for beginning to intermediate level students who wish to gain a solid understanding of strategies and conceptions for painting in a representational manner. Using theory and observation we’ll begin by focusing our attention on tonal values and the underlying structure of a painting. As we progress through the course, we’ll work from both still life and models. Learning is guided by individual assistance and in class demonstrations.
Discussions will include rational painting techniques, direct and indirect strategies, perceptual color & space, studio practices and brushwork, and creating depth and the feeling of light.
